Nashville preview

So, the Wings are playing away against Bubba tonight. The last time that happened was a couple of weeks ago. The Preds won 3-1 in a game where the Wings PK was abysmal, the offense impotent and Pekka Rinne was excellent. Detroit's only goal came on a strong individual effort by Drew Miller. After that game, the Wings were shutout in 2 straight games.

Tonight we want revenge! At least I do. But it won't be easy. While the Wings had a great and inspiring comeback last night, they only barely pulled it off, and that was against the bottom-dwelling Ducks. The Preds have, after a slow start, been one of the league's hottest team the last 15-16 games. So it won't be easy. They are another team with some scoring troubles, but lately players like Erat have stepped up and they have also really scored by committee. The reason they win games though is a strong defense, led by Shae Weber and Ryan Suter and excellent goaltending by Pekka Rinne.

I haven't seen a Detroit line-up for tonight, but I assume that Ozzie will be in goal because of the back to back games. He's been up and down lately, and this could be the sort of low scoring game where he has to be at his sharpest. On the defense Brett Lebda joined every rush last night, admirable in trying to help the current scorin woes, but he should probably focus more on his defense first. The rest of defense was silently pretty good last night, with the exception of Brad Stuart, who kicked ass like always. Both he and Nick seem up for a goal soon.

The forward lines were shaken up quite a bit in the third last night, and I have no idea what Babcock will go with tonight. I will no matter what be looking to Hank for a continued great performance. Even when he's not scoring he battles hard, but he needs to shoot better than he did yesterday. Datsyuk is another guy who needs better shooting. He impressed us with some playfulness and dangle last night, but lost uncharacteristically many batlles. Let's hope he does something with that today. I will also be looking for Leino to build off his strong performance, and to see how Bertuzzi follows up his excellent game last night.

I have a feeling that a game like this might be decided on special teams. On the bright side the Wings have killed of their last twentysomething penalties over a span of six games. That effort needs to be continued tonight. On the PP they hopefully can build off the two late PP goals last night, but still 2 for 10 last night is not good enough.

A week ago I saw a picture of Pekka Rinne on NHL On the flye and this thought struck me:
Pekka Rinne looks an awful lot like...

...Neil Patrick Harris a.k.a. Barney Stinson. (Edit: The fuckers who hosted the original pic blocked it. Also, notice that Michael and TPL actually compares Jason Williams to Barney in his GP)

Prediction: December 12th 2009, I was trying to keep a hot streak alive against the droughty Red Wings, but then pucks started flying past me, ruining all my game. After five goals I was taken off. It was legen...wait for it... darily bad.
